What Is Entity SEO, and Why Does AI Search Care?
Entity SEO is the work of making sure search engines and AI models understand your brand, people, products and places as clearly defined things with accurate attributes and relationships, so they can recommend you with confidence.
Things, not strings
Search used to match words. Modern search and AI models try to understand things: a company, its founder, its services, where it operates and what others say about it. When those facts are clear and consistent across the web, AI can connect your brand to the right questions. When they are vague or contradictory, it hesitates, or gets you wrong.

Why it matters now
Ahrefs found most AI models repeated fabricated claims about a fictional company even when official information contradicted them (Ahrefs Q1 2026 AI search report via Business Wire). Its study of 75,000 brands also found branded web mentions were the strongest correlate of AI Overview visibility (Ahrefs, 75,000-brand AI Overview study). Both findings point the same way: what the web consistently says about you shapes what AI says about you.
Five practical steps
- Write one canonical description of your company, and use it everywhere
- Add Organisation, Person and Service schema with consistent @id references (Google: structured data intro)
- Align your profiles: LinkedIn, Google Business Profile, directories and review sites
- Connect people to expertise: author pages for your experts, linked from their content
- Earn independent mentions that describe you accurately
We rebuilt SerpHike's own schema this way, with one Organisation entity referenced across every page and the founder, Amandeep Singh, linked as a Person with his LinkedIn profile.
